The Heritage Printside: I can't Believe it's not Balsa!
The Printside is a flatsided crankbait designed to mimic the characteristics of classic balsa crankbaits
The Heritage Printside is the first of many 3D printed bait designs from Heritage Baits. It’s a small flatsided crankbait with an internal weight transfer system designed to increase the action and create a “thump" coming through the water.
The Printside is a very buoyant bait, like the classic balsa flatsides. It will even “back out” of snags when paused, something that was long thought to be impossible with plastic baits.
We’ve narrowed the design options to two possible bill shapes—a squarebill and a rounded bill—for you to test!
The bait is best printed flat on it’s side, making it a very stable and quick print. Internal weights (two 3/16” ball bearings) are inserted during printing.
If you fish this bait without sealing, it will eventually take on water (but still catch fish!). Single color prints keep water out longer than multi-color.
We’ve found it’s best to seal 3D printed baits by dipping twice in polyacrylic (https://amzn.to/4iMsWc1) and coating with your favorite epoxy finish. (https://amzn.to/44FD0NQ)
If you choose to paint your baits, we’ve found that’s best done after the polyacrylic and before the epoxy/clear coat.
